Incoming Inspection & Testing
Document nameplate information and transformer condition. Perform initial electrical testing to evaluate the unit and identify potential issues.

STS provides complete in-shop reconditioning of three-phase transformers, helping utilities, municipalities, cooperatives and industrial customers extend equipment life while reducing the cost and lead time associated with replacement.
Why Recondition?
Our in-house transformer reconditioning program provides utilities, municipalities, electric cooperatives and industrial customers with a practical alternative to replacement—especially when new-transformer lead times or availability create challenges.
Cost-Effective: Reconditioning can provide a cost-effective alternative to replacement while extending the useful life of existing transformer assets.
Faster Turnaround: Avoid modern supply chain delays with in-house shop turnaround.
Upgraded Components: We retrofit older units with modern, highly efficient materials and digital relays where applicable.
Eco-Friendly: Reduce industrial waste by revitalizing heavy-duty copper and steel enclosures.

Our Shop Process
Every piece of 3-phase equipment that enters the STS shop undergoes a rigorous, multi-point restoration process.
Document nameplate information and transformer condition. Perform initial electrical testing to evaluate the unit and identify potential issues.
Drain transformer fluid as required, remove/access components, inspect bushings, gaskets, connections, gauges and internal condition, and identify necessary repairs.
Repair leaks and damaged components; replace bushings, gaskets, gauges and other components as required; perform fabrication/welding repairs; clean and prepare the tank and associated components
Refill/process insulating fluid as required, establish the proper nitrogen blanket where applicable, perform final electrical testing and leak checks, prep and paint the transformer, and complete final inspection before release.
Talk with the STS team about your transformer, application and reconditioning needs. We’ll review the unit information and help determine the appropriate next steps.
